Building Relationships in Online Business

Listening to one of Jimmy Browns’ videos last week made me ponder where our relationship stood. Now before you go getting any funny ideas, I’m a married man.

Seriously though, the online dealings between list owner and subscriber or customer is, for all intents and purposes, a relationship, or at least it shoud be…..

Jimmy talks about how MOST internet marketers look at their lists and they see them as potential customers - whereas he sees them as ‘partners’.

You know, to most people a list member is a number, someone that can provide income somewhere down the line.

It got me thinking about how I see the people on my email list, including you…….(If you got here via an email from me then you are on one of my lists)

I have to be honest, in the past I didn’t think much of it and saw my list as something I needed to grow, to gain as much capital from as possible.

In the Internet marketing world they talk about ‘the money being in the list’, so as my list began to grow I began to see dollar signs.

The types of offers one sends tend to reflect how one views their subscribers. In the past I would have sent whatever was available just to make a buck - It works up to a certain point but it is not how I liked to do things and eventually I learnt from my mistakes.

More importantly there is no satisfacion in chasing dollars. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no Mother Theresa:-), BUT it’s nice to hear from people when you have genuinely helped them further their business and/or profits.

I think what I’m trying to say is that the two go hand in hand. When someone is helped through my efforts then I feel as if I’m doing something useful and directly or indirectly my income grows.

Today I am more selective in what I make available to you and I will tend to try to put more value and more effort into the products I offer.

Maybe I am maturing and with that so is my attitude. As Jimmy points out I am beginning to see each and every member of my list as a partner.

In the future, hopefully through something you have learnt from me, you will go on to make a REAL success of your online business. Maybe you are already a success, in which case we can learn from each other.

Whatever the case I want this to be a two way street and I believe it is. I will continue to send you whatever I judge will help you make a success of your online business and you continue to read, give feedback, and occasionally buy.

The good news is that if you want to end the relationship you just click on the unsubscribe link at the end of the email. Much easier, and quicker than the divorce courts:-).

Hope this gives you too something to think about.

Mal Keenan
