Here’s an answer I just made to a post on a private forum.
The questionner asked how to get top rankings on Google using natural linking methods.
This was my response:
Here are three things I would do with any new site and I know for sure that they work.
How do I know?
Well, recently I bought an apartment in a holiday destination and applied these three things getting first page google ranking for competitive keyword terms within 3 months. I should say that I installed a Wordpress blog on the top level of my domain.
1. Write, or have written for you, 3 articles on your website topic. Submit them to the article databases using the article submission services. To do this by hand wasn’t an option for me.
2. Submit your site to the top article directories using Directory Submitter. This is semi automated software.
3. Submit to the major social bookmarking sites. I have only started doing this recently and started to receive rankings beforehand.
Obviously the more targeted your niche the more effective this will be.
I have made around 10 posts to my blog and most are news articles with my own comments added to the beginning and the end. So you don’t need to add totally unique content to your blog to do this.
Use your 3 articles as blog posts, preferably before sending to the article databases.

There are no secrets to getting a website ranked but it takes persistence and a little time to see results. Most people don’t want to put in the necessary work and commitment.
Folllow the three methods above and you will eventually see results.
