The internet as well as print classified ads are full of "work-at-home" opportunities. If you are like me you have probably checked a few of these out. Many are full of hype about making $20,000 a month and becoming a millionaire. In other words, they dangle a shiny carrot that we want to draw us in. So, how do you find a legitimate work-from-home or work-at-home business? First, identify what you are looking for, or what you are interested in. It is hard to be passionate about selling auto parts if you want to help people lose weight to improve their health. What are your reasons or motivation for working from home? Are you in desperate need of money? Do you need to pay down debt? Do you want to stay home and start a family but still need an income? Are you relocating to care for a loved one (senior parent or parents)? Do you hate your job? Or, boss? Understand why you want to work from home and identity what type of work you would like to do. Gaining this knowledge before you jump into the work-at-home pool will give you a solid foundation for choosing the right business opportunity for you. Legitimate work-at-home business opportunities are not get rich quick schemes. Beware of those ads or sales people that promise this. They give good reputable companies a bad name. Read the fine print, ask questions, and ask to see the answers in writing. Clearly understand what is provided by the company or employer and what is required from you before you invest any money. What is the start up cost or initial investment? Do you have to find your own leads and turn them into customers? Do you have to market your self on your own or does the company provide marketing tools? Look for companies that are serious about your success. These companies will offer free, or low cost, coaching and training as well as marketing tools. Where are these companies? How do you find them? Start looking in your local area. Ask friends, family and neighbors if they know anyone who is successfully working at home. Many people in your own area are making money working from home; moms, single parents, retired or ex-military, entrepreneurs, seniors, and more. Pick up business cards and flyers from local restaurants and businesses. Visit your local chamber of commerce. Check online directories or information sites for your area. Research the internet for the best network marketing opportunities. Celebrities, famous authors, and well-known businessmen endorse network marketing. Consider the companies they endorse or are affiliated with. Research franchises. Look for trends and a list of up and coming business opportunities.
